Filthy Animals Get Their Piggy-Bank Taken From Them

Tether and OKX Join Forces with DOJ to Freeze $225M Linked to Human Trafficking
Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, and crypto exchange OKX have collaborated with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) to freeze approximately $225 million USDT connected to an international human trafficking syndicate in Southeast Asia.
Blockchain analysis tools from Chainalysis were employed in the investigation to trace wallets involved in an extensive "pig butchering" scam targeting victims worldwide. "Pig Butchering" is an online scam where the perpetrator feigns interest in a romantic relationship, builds trust over time, and then deceives the victim into sending money under false pretenses, often involving a fabricated story or investment opportunity.
The location of the illicit funds was uncovered through blockchain analysis, with the frozen wallets identified on the secondary market and not directly associated with Tether's customers.

The tech world was rocked when OpenAI unexpectedly terminated its leader, Sam Altman, last Friday.
However, in a surprising twist, the company's board is now in discussions with him about a potential return as CEO. In a blog post on Friday, the board announced Altman's immediate departure, citing a lack of confidence in his leadership and inconsistency in communication.
While rumors circulate about the nature of this communication issue, no concrete details have emerged. Greg Brockman, Altman's co-founder, was also removed from the OpenAI board.
Altman is said to be undecided about returning to his former role and would consider it only if the company undergoes significant governance changes.

Javier Milei Emerges as Argentina's President; Bitcoin Sees Nearly 3% Gain
Javier Milei is set to become the next president of Argentina, as his opponent, Sergio Massa, conceded on Sunday evening, acknowledging that "Argentines chose another path." With approximately 87% of the votes counted, Milei secured 56% of the tally against Massa's 44%, according to Bloomberg.
Amid speculation about a robust performance by Milei, Bitcoin quietly rose late Sunday afternoon and surged nearly 3% in the past 24 hours to reach $37,350 following Massa's concession. Milei, a self-described anarcho-capitalist, has been a supporter of Bitcoin, referring to it as "the return of money to its original creator, the private sector."
While Milei has criticized the central bank, labeling it a "scam," he has not explicitly proposed making Bitcoin legal tender. Instead, he advocates for the elimination of Argentina's central bank and the dollarization of an economy grappling with soaring inflation, reaching 142% in October.
